Vaults

VAULTS FOR CASKETS

In most areas of the country, no state or local law requires the purchase of an outer burial container. However, many cemeteries require such a container. There are two types of outer burial containers, a grave liner and a vault. In general, a grave liner will only prevent the grave from collapsing and settling. A vault will perform these same functions as well prevent gravesite elements (water and soil) from entering the container. An outer burial container is an enclosure, usually fabricated of concrete that surrounds the casket in the grave. The purpose for these enclosures is to prevent the graves from continually settling and possibly collapsing as cemetery personnel open graves in different areas of the cemetery. It also allows for the use of heavy equipment for cemetery maintenance. In short, outer burial containers make cemeteries much easier to maintain.

URN VAULTS FOR CREMATION

If you choose burial after the cremation, it's important to understand why you need an urn vault and that they do not all provide the same protection. There are several factors that challenge the integrity of an urn vault. Heavy equipment necessary for maintaining the cemetery grounds passes over the urn vault during cemetery operations. Ground water, too, is an important factor; A lined urn vault is constructed using high strength concrete. Lined urn vaults are reinforced in one of two ways: with durable plastic or with a combination of durable plastic and metal. Each lined urn vault provides the long-lasting protection needed to resist these elements over time. In most areas of the country, state or local law does not require that you buy a container to surround the urn in the grave. However, many cemeteries require that you have such a container so that the grave will not sink in. Either a grave liner or an urn vault will satisfy these requirements.
